All of the "Easy Winders" by Orbita have a 5 year warranty.

The Privee winder and other winders like it have a rest period in between winding cycles, so there is no risk of over-winding. The advantage of keeping the mainspring fully wound is that it will always be fully wound when you take the watch off the winder.

The advantage of the Wolf Designs method is that, since Wolf Designs winders are a little louder than Orbita winders, it makes sure there is no chance of the winder keeping you up at night.

One method is not better than another, but each has some advantages.

It's difficult if not impossible to find the winding requirements for vintage watches, so we recommend a fully programmable winder that can wind any watch

and then using some trial and error to determine the optimal setting for your watch. The strategy is simple start with a high turns per day setting and if the watch stays wound either turn it lower or stop. If your mechanically inclined you can keep lowering the settings until the watch does not stay wound and then reset it to the next highest setting.

Another option is to go with the Sparta Rotor Wind motor of the Easy Winder by Orbita.

The advantage of the Sparta Series of Winders is if you are non technical and hate messing with settings etc the winder will likely wind any watch you own. It's difficult to find the winding requirements for vintage watches, so we recommend a fully programmable winder that can wind any watch. If you go with the Viceroy winder by Wolf Designs, you can easily try different settings to see which one works.
(Note: Viceroy is the critical part, Wolf makes other winders which will not work for this watch and though they are programmable do not offer the range of settings needed.)

You'll want to start with a setting of 650 turns bi-directional (half in one direction half in the other.) This is the setting for modern Seamasters. If your watch is a chronograph, you'll want to start with 800 turns clockwise.

I can not speak to the issue of a product we do not sell. (The European EW1466BK.)
All I know is we have sold the 1466 eilux winder model which you mention for years now
and have had very good success and very few requests for service
of any type. I had a 1466 Eilux Single Winder running in my office on my desk for years with
no problems at all, no noise no "shuttering"... Warranty or Service requests are extremely
rare across the entire Eilux range in fact I do not recall the last such request it
has been so long ago. The Eilux products we sell are a strong dependable product.

Winders are mechanical devices and so sometimes they fail, I would suggest your friend
get his serviced. I have no idea who services Eilux in Germany.
Eilux has a solid reputation in my book and I suggest you contact Eilux
and discuss their European distribution system with them directly.

It sounds to me like the one you saw has a defective motor which is easily
repaired or replaced. This is typical of situation where surge protectors
are not used. Plus as you know German electricity is a wallopping 220-240 volts
compared to USA 120 Volts and this might present a special challenge for any
small electrical motors.

Again, we do not really deal with the German market
and do not know what the situation is but Eilux is a strong product here
in the US. Best of all here in the US if purchased from an Authorized
retailer your winder can be serviced easily and rather inexpensively.

I have several Patek Philippe automatic wrist watches (including complicated and a grand complication/perpetual), a Tag Heuer automatic and others. I currently have an Underwood Roto Box (single) and have been rotating the watches on same as I wear one. I am in need of a 3 or 4 position winder and note the Orbita Siena 3 and Monaco 3 on your website. What are the pluses/minuses of each, including price?

I admit that the extra storage on the Monaco is attractive to me as I have several manual winds, as well.

Also, what, if any, difference is there between the Orbita Siena 3 Winder and the Siena 3 Best Breitling?

A further consideration is that I have small wrists (and therefore a small strap on each watch). Is sizing an issue for the winders?

I also have a buckle latch on many, but not all, of my watches. Is this of any concern?

As far as the winders, both the Monaco and Siena will wind all of your collection. (for the manual wind watches look at the Orbita Sempre Winder.) I think you already noted the differences the more expensive winder has the extra storage space. The style is different and that is a matter of taste. Both are a good choice.

Now the harder question:
Wrist size and buckles.

You did not tell me which Tag Watch you own. They use a number of different movements which require different winding settings.

I was a little concerned about the possibility of any problems with the winder, as the return policy on clearance items is very strict. After taking a chance, the winder arrived in great condition. There is felt on the botton of the box to protect your furniture and the box itself. The curved front design really gives it a look all its own. The top edge has a beveled black stain on it. The price is very resonable given the brand and quality. Ragar boxes are some of the best regardless of which one you purchase. My impression of this merchant: They only carry the finest products. I finally got them down to charging me $30.00 (thats right, 50% of the purchase price) leaving me a $29.00 credit toward the $50 case we wanted to replace it with .So after paying shipping 3 times a $50 item ended up costing me $108.00. Jerome, you are putting the pillows in wrong. Please review the pictures on watchcases.com,, notice the curved part of the pillow should match the curve of the pillow cushion holder. You have simply turned your pillow sideways. Unlike cheaper watchwinders Orbita Winders are built right and you should never have to resort to using rubber bands and cotton balls to hold your watch on the winder. I salute your creativity. For such a fine watch you are certainly looking at the right level of watch winder. It is shocking the number of people who purchase the finest watches made and yet trust their care to the cheapest winders made. Penny Wise pound foolish, nice to see you my friend are not foolish!

The standard recommendation when using a winder with 2 watches on one winding head is to place a second watch of about the same weight on the opposite side for balance. This prevents the winder from winding at a slanted angle. It protects the winder as much as it protects your watch. Cheaper winders employ this 2 watch per winder head style and typically we say to avoid such winders however, Buben is built so well it probably can wind your Tag Heur just fine all by itself with no risk. But the standard advice is prudent, this is an expensive winder you may as well protect it.

The cheap winders that use this tactic for making their winders seem like bargains in pricing do not use internal parts as does Buben and Orbita and the winder can not withstand the weight of 2 watches, at least this is what is reported to us over and over again by people who learned things the hard way. I'm looking to buy three watch winders to use with the following watches:
• Rolex Datejust
• Cartier Roadster XL Chrono (W62019X6)

Your website states that this winder, Eilux2Winder, is preset at 900 TPD. According to my research, my watch needs about 650 TPD. (Rolex Yachtmaster).
Are users able to reset/reprogram the TPD in this unit to meet their specific needs, such as 650 rather than 900 TPD?
I have an old Seiko automatic from the early 1970s as well as an Omega Seamaster a professional from the 1990s, so a second motor head is desirable.

Indeed, the Eilux2Winder is a very reliable product. It is, in fact, factory preset to 950 TPD (turns per day). You are able to program the direction of the turns, clockwise, counterclockwise or bidirectionally, and, you are able to program the direction of each individual Winder Head.
Over winding should not be a concern because today's automatic watches are almost all manufactured with a mechanism that would dis-engage the winding mechanism once the mainspring is fully wound up.

However, over stressing the watch is a problem.
In layman's term, over-stress is a result of placing an automatic watch in a winder that winds the watch non-stop, without any rest period in between. With this non-stop process, stress eventually builds up. Like any other mechanical parts, over-stress could eventually shorten the useful life of the moving mechanism of a watch.
Thankfully, the Eilux2Winder cycles on and off automatically and does not run continuously.

You do have quite a collection of fine automatic watches. If over winding is still a concern for your Rolex, Sieko and Omega you might want to look at a winder that provides more winding options.
There is definitely one winder that comes to mind. The Orbita Siena 2 can be programmed both directionally as well as TPDs, to meet the needs of your Rolex, Seico, and Omega automatic watches. Well without knowing the model it is hard to answer definitetively.
It really depends on how much you paid for the watch and how accurately you want the watch winder to maintain the watches time.

Watch Winders are not as effective as wearing a watch to keep it wound, but they are a good tool for keeping the time close to the correct time till you can wear it, which is a big deal!

The better the watch winder you buy the better time keeping you will get from your watch while on your watch winder.

If you have a Rolex Daytona Cosmograph 4130 then you have a more difficult watch to wind and to keep wound. Plus you will want to be careful not to damage the watch using a cheap watch winder. The Daytona Cosmograph needs to be wound in the clockwise direction and these watches need to be wound more than the average Rolex automatic watch.

Best Travel Watch Case for Panerai Watch?

I have a Panerai automatic watch and have been looking at your web site for a travel watchcase or watch box. I’ve got it narrowed down to the Venlo Milano 1 watchcase, and the Panerai Watch Case. The regular sized Venlo Milano watch case says that it only fits watches up to 50 mm in diameter. I’ve measured my watch and I think that it measures 51 mm. My watch also has a non deployant latch which prevents it from laying flat. With the Panarai watch case it states that it must be able to lie flat, so I think that one is out. I know that the Milano comes in Grande (Larger Size) but I’m wondering if you think this type watch and band will fit in the Milano Grande?

Yes, Mark, you are definitely on the right path. Panerai watches are not only beautiful but also substantial in size. My suggestion would be to go with the Venlo Milano Grande. You said we way it holds a watch up to 50mm, we do not write that, we write that the case has a holder that measures about 50 mm, however it will only hold a 48 mm dial watch. So your watch exceeds the size limits of the standard by 3 mm! According to Thomas O'Brien of Venlo, the Milano Grande should offer just enough room for your beautiful automatic Panerai watch with that unruly deployant buckle. Plus protect it when you are storing it or traveling with it.

I understand your concern about your watch not laying completely flat, but, even though your Panarai watch does not lay completely flat there should be adequate room because of the depth of the Venlo Milano Grade case. The Milano measures about 23 mm in depth. This should give plenty of room for the non deployant latch and the watch face to rest comfortably. Basically a Quartz watch looses less than a second a day while an automatic, a good one, will vary 10 seconds a day, so do the math and this means if you place your watch on the watch winder and walk away for a month the watch is likely to loose anywhere from 1-2 minutes a week or up to 10 minutes or so in a 30 day period...this is normal and nothing is wrong with your watch winder, but the better the watch winder the less time accuracy you will loose (or gain).

Often people discover their automatic watch is in need of service after placing it on the watch winder. Does this mean the winder broke the watch? No, not at all, automatic watches should be serviced every 3 years according to the Swiss Watch Federation, and I think they over estimate the service length, but few people actually service their watches like they should!

Basically you can see that with this inherent weakness in accuracy of an automatic watch, that you should purchase a fully programmable watch winder. This allows you to adjust the winding time as needed by your watch. It is mechanical and a slight variation in the internal parts of the watch means 2 of the same watches can acutally require different winding, even if they have the exact same name and model and movement stamped on the watch!

My husband has a Panerai automatic watch and a Breitling and I need to know which watchcase will work for my watches. I’ve got it narrowed down to the Venlo Biella Grande 2 Watchcase or Biella Standard Watchcase not sure which to get, there is a big price jump for the Grande version. The regular sized Venlo Biella watch case says that it only fits watches up to 50 mm in diameter. I’ve measured my watch and I think that it measures 51 mm. My panerai watch also has a non deployant latch which prevents it from laying flat. I know that the comes in Grande (Larger Size) but I’m wondering if you think this type watch will fit in the Standard size?
What are your suggestions?

No, Mary Beth, you can not get the standard size for those watches. If the watch measures less than 48mm and has a standard style watch band and clasp, then the standard is the best and cheapest choice. But not for those Monsters!

You are definitely on the right path, let me push you over the edge to purchase a grande case, you will not regret the choice! Panerai watches are both Big and Beautiful and a pain to find a watchcase for.

My suggestion would be to go with the Venlo Biella grande size. According to Thomas O'Brien of Venlo, it should offer just enough room for your beautiful automatic Panerai watch and buckle strap.

Well either it is broken and in need of adjustment or it is being under wound. Most experts recommend getting your Automatic Watch serviced by a qualified watch repair person at least once a year. No one does this though and so, they ask why their watch runs slow....but it also could be running slow because it is not being wound enough.

Hmmm, maybe your watch is just one of those movements that does not keep accurate time! Many automatic movements on the market today are not as good as a simple cheap digital watch or clock. Some movements however are incredibly accurate, but your mileage may vary, it does not take much to throw off the time keeping performance of an automatic watch.

Well, like I said, maybe it is broken, or maybe you were not active enough today while you were wearing it.

The other day Ann was in the office and exclaimed..."Hey, my watch is 10 minutes slow! That's the first time it has done that all week! Why is that?"

Well the answer was simple that day her computer terminal was busy, Ann spent most of her day typing and typing does not move ones wrist very much and wrist movement is what it takes to wind and automatic watch. I think it was a Wednesday and Wednesday is hump day and no one seems to purchase any watch boxes or watch winders online, so we had no orders to fill and Ann was not up checking winders and wrapping tape on boxes and pouring out peanuts and otherwise flipping her wrists around. Instead she was answering emails and typing other information.

I told her "because today you were a lazy slug", after she hit me, she said "what do you mean I was working all day", and I said "no, you were sitting all day and not moving your arm." She said "oh, sorry about your eye, now I understand"....OK so she did not hit me, but there in lies the rub with Automatic Watches they require movement. They are really not Self Winding Watches at all they are wrist movement wound watches.

Now if you put your watch in a watch winder, and it looses a little time then it is an oddity of your watch, but that can be fixed if you buy a quality fully programmable watch winder. You could alter the performance of the watch by maybe turning the watch winder up a notch, but watches are finicky and sometimes they just run slow or fast and nothing can be done about it....Usually when we wear our Automatics when the time is off slightly we make a quick unconscious manual adjustment.

A note about programmable watch winders. They are programmable by turns per day, by running time, by turning direction, some or all of these features is considered or could be called programmable. Even an on off switch could be called programmable if you stretch the definition! Cheap watch winders are minimally programmable. But as long as you can program the direction and get at least 500 Turns Per Day most Automatics will keep running, in fact 99% of watches require 950 TPD or less (Turns Per Day)....

Why are all programmable watch winders not made equally?
Because making a fully programmable watch winder costs money!

So the more you spend the better result you will get from your watch. Though no watch winder will keep a watch at the perfect time. This is why if you follow the watch winder industry you will notice the inclusion and then exclusion of digital battery powered clocks on or in the winders! Who wants a constant reminder from your wife that your $14,000 watch is not keeping time as well as her $100 quartz battery powered watch or even as good as the $10 digital on the watch winder. So companies stopped including the digital time on the front cover of the watch!

Let me say first I am not a watch repairman, so I could be wrong.
I do not know the technical reason for this occurrence and I have observed the same
phenomenon....I own an Invicta, a watch I really enjoy, but it took to running fast. I was confused until a friend pointed out that the band was one link to large and I had developed a nervous habit of flipping my wrist and hence the watch back and forth...so in effect I was over winding my watch...

I removed the link and broke the habit and now my watch runs more closely on time.

Though, as we all know automatics are always gaining a few minutes here and there and we are always absent mindedly resetting the thing! ha ha....but on the winder if it is wound a tad bit too much it will gain time, and if running a tad bit slow I suppose it will loose time, though, typically from my observations, if too slow, it simply stops instead of loosing time....this rule is not in stone, but is based on my observations. However keep in mind Automatic Watches are inherently inaccurate!

So when people ask which winder, the question is really how important and how close to the exact time do you wish your watch to stay? Well, I do not know exactly, probably 650 Turns Per Day, but maybe more. You will have to do some trial and error. We do not have data on that watch, but it is a $6,000 plus watch so you do want to take care of it and not over stress it, or over wind it. Technically your not "supposed" to be able to "over wind" a modern automatic watch. The other day I got this question from a caller and it turns out his Rolex was a fake and he purchased it knowing it was a fake and my answer to him was "it does not

Rolex uses a variety of watch movements to power their watches and the majority of Rolex Watches require 650 Turns Per Day wound bi-directionally. Meaning
the vast majority of Watch Winders out there will "over-work" your Rolex Watch!

Notice I say "over-work", not "over wind". In reality I should not bother, since for the layman, the result is the same. A broken watch. If you over work the watch, that is wind it day in and day out more than you should you are overworking it, and as we know from sports this is bad. This is why Athletes are called old in most sports that require repetitive movements under stress are an issue. Like tennis.

So what is the difference between "over-working" and "over winding"? Well, technically you can not over wind a modern mechanical automatic or self winding watch.

They are built with a slip mechanism to prevent "over winding" it says so in your owners manual.

If you bought a real automatic watch you need to face the reality of purchasing a real automatic watch. Their are a ton of wannabees out there! Are you a real Doctor or do you just play one on TV? ;-) OK kidding aside, let me explain....

Most Watch Winders simply over work your watch and do not technically "over wind" the watch. Over winding is when you wind the watch to the point that the main spring snaps! This slip mechanism prevents this from happening, however this slip mechanism should not be put under constant stress 24x7 which is what happens when the watch is placed in an inferior cheap watch winder. Now if you bought a fake watch or cheap
television sale watch

So, to prevent your valuable Rolex watch from wearing out too soon like say Venus Williams or Roger Federer, or even Tiger Woods, maybe you should cut it some slack and buy a watch winder with a programmable setting which allows you to minimize the winding it endures. Don't put it into a watch winder tournament to see how much stress it can stand! Repetitive same motion movements are the culprit for wearing out knees, shoulders, elbows and Automatic Watch Movements! Less stress is best.

Pretty much the only truly programmable watch winder at an "affordable" price is the Orbita Watch Winder. Most watch winders on the market are programmable for directional turns. But most cheap watch winders do not allow flexible turns per day programming. The important thing is to minimize wear and tear on the watch, less is more! Less wear and tear more care of your watch.

But the thing is most watches do not list in the owners manual the proper or minimal turns per day needed for it to keep running but not be over used. Why?

Well in the words of 99% of Watch Manufacturers when called...

Rolex Movements: You should not over wind your watch if at all possible you should not exceed these recommended turns per day. Increase the Turns Per Day only if the watch does not stay wound at the lower setting.

Most Roles watches require 650 Turns Per Day Bi-Directional Winding.
But the Rolex Daytona requires Clockwise winding rotation of 800 to 950 Turns Per Day, so you see the need for an adaptable and programmable watch winder?

Sure you could get a watch winder that turns your watch 1,300 Turns Per Day, but it would be over stressing the watch by twice its needs and theoretically cutting its life span in half, or at least the service free time span. Automatic Watch Service is not cheap, I think the going rate now a days in major cities is $250 and hour. But they do not quote automatic watch service like that on an hourly basis, so, your guess is as good as mine. I just pay the bill, they never tell me how long they work on the thing. But the bill is usually a couple hundred each visit....

So you need a programmable watch winder that allows you to turn down the turns per day to a minimal level which will maintain the watch.....

Next question is well then if over winding is a problem what do I need a winder for?
Well aside from the convenience factor and the time savings, because mechanical things are made to be used. What happens to the human body if it is under used?
Well, Tiger is having knee issues from over use, but the average American is going to die way to young from under use. A mechanical watch has internal lubrication and the parts need to be lubricated through movement, so less is more, but none is death and too much is bad...simple equation.

You know this argument makes sense so now all you need to do is remind yourself that
spending money on quality is never a mistake and buying something because it is cheap always has a price to pay far worse than the savings on the front end!

Do not risk your expensive Rolex Automatic watch by placing it on a cheap watch winder.

All mechanical things need maintenance and sometimes they break. Modern Watch Winders are made to be maintenance free, but making them like this compromises the trouble free operational life time line. If Watch Winders were made in the volume that cars are made and sold you would be able to walk your winder over to your watch winder dealer, but alas we are a super small niche market. Dealerships are expensive, mechanics salaries are expensive and this is why cars are expensive. It is also why Quality Watch Winders are expensive compared to cheap watch winders.
Quality Watch Winders are made with quality parts and are repairable. Speaking of Cheap Watch Winders, we do not carry cheap watch winders. Period.

Please do not call us asking how to get your Steinhausen Watch Winder repaired. We do not carry Steinhausen, and to the best of my knowledge they are not repairable, but we do not carry them. I am simply reporting what former customers have said to us when they order a replacement watch winder.

(Sorry I digress, it just gets old seeing these fake websites online, and otherwise respectable people buying from them!)

Wolf Designs Watch Winders are very good Watch Winders, especially when compared the the cheap watch winders which we refuse to carry, but Wolf Winder are not readily repairable. Wolf is excellent about their warranty work however, if you buy a Watch Winder from us they will replace it if it is within warranty coverage. Wolf probably will alter this model for their winders to a repairable version so they can gain market share in the large multi-head watchwinder field.

People are always asking how long a watch winder should work. We have a hard time giving an exact answer, the Watch Winder industry is really small and really young. But you can correlate life span and price paid. Buben and Zorweg seem to last the longest, followed closely by Orbita Watch Winders, they both use a similar long lasting Swiss or German Engineered servomotor and high quality fasteners and other such seemingly trivial parts. A penny more here a dollar more there produces and expensive watch winder that lasts typically for a couple Presidential Tours. Your mileage may vary....

Eilux Watch Winders, are also made with quality inside parts, however not quite as good (not European Swiss watch quality engineering) and likewise an Eilux Winder is not quite as expensive as the Orbita or Buben Watch Winder. So maybe the life span is only one term? We have been selling Eilux for 5 years now, no wait 6 years now. We have had only a handful of requests for information on servicing them. Though from time to time we do get a call asking for the service center. (Time to time, meaning maybe every 4-6 months a call might come in.)

I am always shocked that the thing is claimed to have stopped working and I contact the service center, but typically the caller does not follow through, with the so called repair, so I suspect it is the competition trying to discredit the brand. I have not personally seen any such problems.

Or maybe people do not think they should pay to bring their product in for servicing?
You spend money to drive your car to the mechanic right?
Or maybe you pay the tow truck right?
So, I doubt this is the issue. In the past year I have dealt with 3 legitimate issues of warranty for Eilux and all 3 happened immediately.
If memory serves, one was a bad circuit board, it was replaced free of charge, and
the other 2 were simply loose wires, which were re-soldered and were better than new!

I have gotten similar calls from so called customers castigating Orbita Watch Winders, saying this or that, and yet my 6 years experience never matches these so called claims. Oh I should mention, all these complaint callers I mentioned call in on blocked numbers! Our customers simply do not block their numbers. They dial straight in. They know we do not spam or sell their information. So, that is the story on Watch Winders and also I hope it lets you understand the price structure a bit better. No one calls about Buben Winders. I suspect because they are not a market threat in the USA, they are so expensive very few units are sold.

A final note:

When you walk into a store and the light fixtures are broken do you buy?
I hope not.
Likewise when you browse the Internet check the website, look for "broken light fixtures"*.

The other day a customer called and asked me which watch winder was best for his Rolex?
I talked to him a bit about watch winders and how they work and how an automatic watch works etc. Then turns out he says, "oh it was a fake Rolex"!

This is like say, buying a Porsche from the junk yard with a bad engine, replacing the engine with a Chevy and calling the car a Porsche, sure it looks like a Porsche and maybe even has windows that wind down like a Porsche, and wipers that work like a Porsche, but when you step on the gas the truth is told! You do not have a Porsche!

Welcome to the land of the Fakes. How crazy. Look if you have a real watch you need to buy a real watch winder. Not a cheap fake watch winder like much of my competition sells. For most Rolex watches the best watch winder is the Orbita Siena Watch Winder as a starting point in quality.

If you pay too little for what appears to be a real Rolex or a real Orbita Watch Winder, just remember 2 things:

Orbita Watch Winders are as quiet as you can expect to get in a Watch Winder.
What is more, they stay quiet!
Almost all (some cheap winders sold in airline magazines excepted) watch winders start out quiet, but it is only after 1,3 or 6 months that the gears start to grind
and make noise.

Why?
Well, the cheap watch winders use cheap gears. I read somewhere that the gears used in the cheap imported Chinese made watch winders cost like 25 cents! Whereas the gears in Orbita's Watch Winders cost 25% of the total cost of making the thing! Big difference. You really do get what you pay for! What do I mean by grind and make noise?

Noise you can hear across the room, under that pillow which is over your head! But not Orbita, they start whisper quiet and stay that way. Whisper quiet is the only way I can think to describe them. I mean, a discerning ear will pick up the slightest noise, but if you are bothered by it, well then falling leaves must wake you up at night!

I was up one night watching late night TV, I could not sleep, I had jet lag. I was flipping through the 100+ channels and nothing was on! I came across a TV channel selling watches, I watched. They had a special segment, they were offering a free winder with a watch, they were bragging about the winder and saying how quiet it was. I could here the motor over their talking!

I was aghast! I was talking to the Television. But, this is why there is such a price difference between a cheap watch winder and a quality quiet Orbita Watch Winder. Quiet is relative...they should have said "quiet, not as loud as a jack hammer in your bedroom!" That would have been truth in advertising!

But I have never once had one of the Orbita Watch Winders returned for being to loud, customers all the time tell me they bought a cheaper one, but just packed it up and sent it back because it was so loud they could not sleep.

Yes from time to time I hear a story about an Orbita Watch Winder getting noisy, or not working after years of service, and usually the guys follows it up with "and they [Orbita] fixed the thing for me!" Your mileage may vary, and I can not promise Orbita will take care of you the same way, but in my 6+ years of dealing with this company they have consistently proven them selves to be reliable, dependable and nice! (I am talking about the Staff at Orbita, not the winders! ;-) I truly doubt you would have a different experience. I have had a few people call and "pretend" to be "customers" and report this or that bad about Orbita, however when they say they were rude, I realize immediately I am not talking to a real customer, because even when they say no to a request the Orbita Corporation is not rude! Chuck Agnoff, the owner of Orbita would not stand for that, and the co-workers at Orbita would not tolerate a rude customer service rep in their midst. The Internet is such an anonymous place,but Orbita is real, they make real winders for the real world.

They make a beautifully a quiet 6 Watch Winder and a beautiful and quiet 1 watch winder and a ton in between.

They make them quiet and dependable and nice to look at, just like the Orbita staff!

I got this question for the one thousandth time the other day, and I about to explode!

I do not understand this in the least. How can someone with a $25,000 watch collection not want the best watch winder to maintain their watch?

Steinhausen advertises in the skymall magazine and has people fooled into thinking that their low price point is the appropriate price point for a watch winder. It is not! I can not tell you how many former clients of that company are now our clients!

Even in the winders we sell, if one costs more, it is better simple as that. There is no "luxury" status symbol for watch winders, no one sees your watchwinder, except you, so the "label" effect of say a "Gucci", or "Rolex" does not apply and so the price reflects the quality of the mechanical parts and finished materials. You get what you pay for!

I have to laugh, because my client base is not made up of people who can not afford
to purchase the best winder, they (these 1,000 callers) just choose not to spend the money and instead put a priceless watch collection at risk. I just do not understand it. These men and women are smart in other areas, yet....oh well.

simply because she makes the mistake of saying "you can send it back"....

So if you want him to keep it say...."I hope you like it, because I bought it a long time ago and you can't take it back"....then add you searched and read and researched and this seems to be the absolute best choice for his situation....;-)

OK this is a story....a true story I feared I would never be able to tell...When I tell people what I do they are almost always confused...
after 20 minutes of explanation I get "you sell watches"?
"No. I sell watch winders and watch boxes"....starting over...
"But watches have batteries"...never mind.....

Not everyone owns an Automatic Watch, or even a watch for that matter now a days, but I have a friend (acquaintance might be a better term, but...anyway), he is an older guy, long retired. He owns a Rolex and a nice house and likes otherwise to buy cheap things! He loves to save money on the front end...

He always brags about the money he saves on this or that...he is a college professor, or rather was, but still at heart can't shake the air of superiority syndrome some professors seem to elude, please don't take offense. I elude that same smug obnoxious confidence, sometimes myself, ha ha...anyway.

When my friend learned what I do, he said he had researched watch winders and found in the Sky Mall magazine a watch winder that was much cheaper than the stuff I sold....he asked my opinion on them I told him, he was right they are much "cheaper" than the stuff I sell, I also explained it would die and early death, that you get what you pay for.... he bought it anyway....months went buy, maybe it was close to a year, he kept telling me how great it was working winding his and his wife's matching Rolex watches. I noticed she would just look on and shake her head ever so slightly...then finally when I had almost given up hope...his wife, egging him on at a dinner party got him to admit to me 2 things.

1.) His Rolex (and hers too) was in the shop for repair and

2.) the watch winder had stopped working, but only after it started making so much noise they could not stand it...so its untimely death was a relief...

He has not placed an order for a watch winder from us yet, and I plan to sell it at full price for the tormenting I took while we waited for his cheap watch winder to break his watches and then to die....(OK, I do not know for certain that his cheap winder broke his watches, all I know is they needed servicing because they stopped working for some reason!) But his wife is pretty sure the winder did the deed. Ha Ha...Watching them fight without fighting is amusing.

I suppose I should give him a trouble free Orbita Watch Winder for proving me correct! Nah!....he was so cock assured about it for months. I simply smugly replied "whad I tell ya?"...ugh....ha ha...anyway, remember friends you get what you pay for and what comes around goes around!

As August begins to wind down, that means schools are about to start. College students begin to pack and shop for necessary items (of if you're like me, you've been packed since July...) for their studies, dorm rooms and fashion to impress their new college friends.

Many students load themselves up with college gear bearing the name or logo of their University. While doing some college shopping of my own, I stumbled upon the Collegiate watches by FOSSIL.

These are watches that bear the name and/or logo from different universities on the watch face. The watch strap and bezel are made of metal, and come in men's and women's styles. There was even a charm bracelet style!

Andy Warhol by Seiko

The pop art of Andy Warhol is still popular even twenty years after his death. I remember when I went to the Museum of Modern Art a few years ago, there was a huge section dedicated just to his work. It's found in movies, television, clothing and even in watches.

Two years ago, the watch company Seiko released a line of watches in Japan modeled after the art of Andy Warhol. The watch faces contain images of his famous paintings, such as the bright yellow banana.

The watch strap and bezel are made of plastic of many different colors, with Warhol's signature inscribed on the the bezel. The watches are fun and colorful like most of Warhol's work.

Unfortunately, it seems as if they were only available in Japan, but maybe Seiko will decide to release them here in the United States.

Musician, dancer and actress Jennifer Lopez created her own clothing and fragrance line a few years ago called justsweet. This month, the line is having a huge sale on summer lines, including the watches.

Most of the watches are fairly unconventional for wristwatches, with charm bracelet watches, watches in the shape of locks, and even watches on necklaces.

The sale on watches is featured on the homepage of the website, with a picture of the Interchangeable Pendant watch, a red heart shaped watch on a necklace. The bezel of the watch has interchangeable patterns and colors, thus the title. The price has been knocked down from $95 to $30. Now that is an impressive sale.

Marc Ecko is predominately known for colorful, almost graffiti like shoe designs, sponsored by celebrities like Vanessa Hugdens and Ashley Tisdale. He also designs hoodies, t-shirts and accessories like watches. Most of his products are sold at Macy's stores.

Like the rest of his designs, his watches are edgy and different. Many of his watch faces have skulls, and one of his most interesting watches is actually part of a dog tag necklace set. Most of his watches are predominantly designed for men, but there are many that I'm sure girls would not mind wearing.

Some of the watches come in watch case sets, that come with a watch, a box and interchangeable watch straps. Just in case you want to wear your favorite watch, but the strap doesn't match you ensemble.

From watches to shoes, Marc Ecko designs are definitely different and creative!

MICHAEL Watches by M. Kors

I absolutely love the show "Project Runway" on the Bravo channel. It's so exciting to watch the designers have to create outfits from interesting and different materials in a very limited time. The judging after the runway show is always incredibly nail-biting, with the judges ranging from the harsh, not-so-nice criticism of Nina, a former fashion editor, to the harsh but funny criticism of Michael Kors, a designer.

I looked up some of Mr. Kors' designs on Macy's website, to see if he truly deserved to be a judge on that show... and let me tell you, his designs were beautiful. He definitely knows what he's doing.

His dresses adorable, his bedding designs were fun, and his watches were creative but not tacky. The watches ranged from having brown tortoise straps and bezel, to textured goldtone, to simple stainless steel and leather. All the watch faces were pretty straightforward and not complicated, which I enjoyed as a difference from overly decorated watches.

My favorite watch was the White Strap watch, which had a mix of white, gold and intricate black designs around the bezel. It was feminine and simple, with a hint of elegance.

The MICHAEL lines by Michael Kors overall is very fun, and Mr. Kors more than deserves to be a judge on "Project Runway".

Japanese culture and technology are becoming very popular all over the world, and the United States is no exception. From laptops to cameras to televisions: the world of technology seems futuristic across the Pacific. Even their watches seem as if they belong in the future.

Toykoflash has a unique mix of Japanese designed watches. From the seemingly normal to the outright creative and colorful, these watches make quite a statement. My personal favorite is the Shinshoku watch, which is, as the Tokyoflash website states, a stainless steel band that has 29 LED lights that give the time. It took me a few moments of staring at the picture to finally understand how the watch actually tells the time, but once I did, it was so amazing. 12 Red lights give the hour, 3 green lights give 15, 30 and 45 past, and 14 yellow lights to give the minutes. You even have a choice of checking the time normally, or having the lights animated.

The Shinshoku watch and the other watches look as if they belong in a sci-fi movie! Leave it to Japan to design a watch so ahead of its time.

Betsey Johnson Colorful Watch

Designer Betsey Johnson recently debuted a fashion show online this past month. She had a large array of new dresses, handbags, and accessories, including watches. Johnson is known for her cutting edge, and colorful designs: her watches are no different.

One of the watches has a black resin heart shaped case, and colorful stones around the bezel. The second hand of the watch has an adorable little pink heart at the tip. Each watch is pictured on a pink pillow in a gold colored watch case with rose engravings.

The watch is cute and fun, an excellent gift for a special young lady in your life. Since the watch is black, it's good for the upcoming cool weather seasons (fingers crossed that those are soon!) and would match most anything.

You can't have too much of a good thing, and nice watches are definitely a good thing. But what would you do if they're all nice automatic watches? You can't possibly wear all those watches at once! That's where the Orbita Bergamo 40 comes in.

De Beers Talisman Watch

One of the most famous names in diamonds, De Beers, came out with an interesting and unique line of watches this past spring. The watches, which are in the Talisman collection, vary from the rounded face of the Talisman Suntime watch to the more trapezoidal face of the Talisman 8 watch.

Based on convenience, I prefer the Talisman 8 watches, since the minute and hour hands are directly on the watch face. On the Suntime watches, they are behind the face, with just a little piece sticking out, which makes it more difficult to read the time unless you look closely.

Both designs have a lovely selection of diamonds on the watch face, including baguette diamonds and brown and white diamonds. The Mini Talisman Suntime with Pave Encrusted Face is covered with diamonds, from the face to the bezel. The Talisman 8 has the option of yellow or white gold for the watch face and yellow/white gold and diamonds for the bezel.

A classy line from a classic company!

Glam Rock Watch by Zenith

I usually don't wear a watch, partially because I can never find one that fits my wrist and partially because I'm pretty picky about my jewelry and accessories. I can find watches that are perfect for other people like my friends and family, but never one that suits my personality. Flipping through an old copy of hr magazine the other day, however, and I discovered a watch that not only would match my personality, but that I would love to own.

Up in the very corner at the beginning of an article about Zenith watches, was a picture of a watch with a black face, black leather strap, black and white diamonds around the bezel and stars covering the watch face. A shooting star represented on of the dials, and a large star, open to reveal the machinery beneath the watch face, was in the top left side. In the tiny print next to the print, it said, "Star Open Glam Rock". Perfect. I loved it even more.

I would not mind wearing this watch at all. I'm all about the black and white, star patterns and glam rock. Okay, maybe not completely about glam rock, but I do love to look glamorous and I love rock 'n' roll.

How do you put a watch on a watch winder pillow?

This is a most frequent question. The answer applies not just to watch winder pillows or holders, but also to watch case pillows. Now watches and straps vary so if this suggestion does not work try another method and it should work fine.

Basically people usually take off their watch and attempt to place it on the watch pillow holder as they would replace it on their wrist. This usually does not work so smoothly. The proper thing to do is close the watch band and then slip the pillow inside the band.

Try this next time. It is not intuitive, we even find ourselves trying to fumble with a pillow and fasten the strap around the pillow! But closing the watch strap first usually is much easier...

Winding an Automatic Watch without using the stem to wind it.

We often get calls from customers asking how to wind their automatic watch. In yesterdays post we did a video showing the process of winding an automatic watch.

Here we will detail in words what you need to do.

Stem winding is self explanatory, follow your owners manual directions and simply wind the stem the prescribed number of times, we say 40 turns gets you to at least an 80% capacity. (Since we sell Watch Winders, this is the magic number needed to allow an Automatic Watch Winder to maintain the wind on your automatic watch forever. Less than this and the watch will not stay wound.)

This is a rule of thumb and could vary with your automatic watch. If you have a power reserve meter on your watch you will know most precisely what your automatic watch takes to charge it fully.

Some watches do not have a stem and therefore the only way to wind such an automatic watch is to wind it with motion. 2 options exist for winding without the use of the winding stem.

1. Wind with wrist motion while wearing the watch.
2. Wind with flicking wrist while holding (firmly) the watch in your hand.

Method 1:

While wearing your watch look at the watch as if you are looking at the time.

Then flick your wrist away from you. Stop suddenly.

Then flick your wrist back to view the time and stop suddenly.

Repeat this process to a count of 40.

It is the sudden stop the imparts the most kinetic energy into the watch rotor.

Place your watch on the watch winder.

Method 2:

Remove your watch and hold it firmly in your hand.

Hold the watch band and place your thumb over the watch face. (Please do not throw your watch across the room!)

Now, flick your wrist down and firmly stop and the bottom.

Repeat the flick upward firmly stopping at the top.

Repeat to a count of 40.

Place your watch on the watch winder.

Is anyone else as excited about the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics coming up this August as I am? One concern I have about watching them live is the time difference between China and the United States. The Perfect Gift

It was my brother and my sister-in-law's six year anniversary a few days ago, and I cannot believe they have been married for that long. My mom was in charge of the rehearsal dinner, (which was wonderful by the way Mom), and the gifts for the groomsmen. Since the majority of them were computer programmers, one of the presents she gave them were little tool kits; the other gift she gave them were watches.

I thought this was a wonderful idea. Watches are a simple gift, that don't make presumptions about the gift receiver and that don't empty your bank account. Watches also are great for both genders, either a nice wide strap and wide watch face for a gentleman, or a slim strap with a delicate watch face for a lady. Or vice-versa, depending on the fashion tastes of the receiver of the watch!

Another great gift would be a jewelry box or a watch case. I know before I got my jewelry box, my watch and necklaces were stored in an old plastic bin, but you can be so much more organized with a watch case or box. A few years ago, my family found these beautiful wooden jewelry case/music boxes at a local shop, and we started to give them away as gifts. They were perfect for jewels, watches, and other odds and ends people had collected over the years and were very appreciated.

Who knows? Maybe the bridesmaids at my wedding will receive watch cases or jewelry boxes to keep up with my mother's theme!

Executive Wristwatches or Timex the watch of Presidents!

Remember two years ago when President George W. Bush got his watch stolen in Albania? Executive watches are a big deal, and I imagine the watch of a current president would sell for a lot of money. However I bet the theif was surprised all he got in the deal was a Timex!

Yes that is right President Geroge W. Bush prefers to wear a Timex watch, like his father George H.W. Bush and surprisingly his other predecessor William Clinton! Before the recent reign of Timex as the executive timepiece, however, There was the Vulcain.

According to the December 2007 edition of hr, from the presidencies of Harry S. Truman to Lyndon B. Johnson, the watch of choice was the Vulcain Cricket. The exception being JFK who wore a Cartier watch, a gift from his wife. There is in fact a watch that is called the "Presidential Watch" by Rolex. Dwight D. Eisenhower, aside from wearing his Vulcain, also wore a Gold Rolex 1956 6511. After Johnson, there was no real presidential watch until H.W. Bush came into office with his Timex.

This makes me wonder what the next Presidential watch trend will be. Will it be Barack Obama, who I believe wears an Omega, or John McCain who, according to his website, does not wear a watch. It appears the Timex watch reign has ended no matter who gets elected.

Dick Tracy Watch Ahead of It's Time

In the 1930s, a comic strip garnered a lot of attention and fame. Dick Tracy, a fictional wise-talking detective created by Chester Gould, was known for his clever nicknames, wit and his fancy gadgets.

One of these gadgets was his two-way communicator watch. With his radio communicator disguised as a watch, Tracy was able to talk to other people on the case without raising suspicion.

After a decade or two, the watch changed from a radio communicator to a TV. The watch communicator fired children's imagination everywhere and many other pop culture trends were created because of it.

Who knew that forty or fifty years later we'd have cell phones, iPhones and camera phones that do the same work as the watch communicator? Granted, they're not disguised as watches, but they can be pretty inconspicuous. They look less suspicious than whispering into your watch I suppose.

However the least suspicious looking device the ear plug to me becomes the most suspicious when in use! Doesn't it give you creeps seeing someone walking and talking to themselves? Well, maybe you are used to it, it still catches me off guard more times than not!

There are times where I've had to decide between wearing a watch and wearing a bracelet.

I do not like wearing anything on my right wrist, since it is my dominant hand and you never know when you might need it. With most watches, you can look at them and know right away you are looking at a watch.

For events like proms or weddings, wearing a watch just doesn't match my outfit, and I know I'm not alone in this sentiment. (Well, except for you collectors out there!)

As the 2008 election roles around, there is going to be a nonstop stream of campaign ads, signs, buttons and all kinds of political paraphernalia. Supporters of the candidates are making all sorts of interesting things to help promote the man they want to be the next president. Democratic candidate Barack Obama has been immortalized in time, literally, with a new set of wristwatches dedicated to him.

The watches, which have gold bezel and black straps, display pictures of him with with slogans like "Time For a Change" (ha ha ha), "Love Your Mama Vote Obama '08", or just simple smiley faces that say "Obama '08". And unlike bumper stickers or window clings, these watches can just slide of your wrist if Obama does not win the election, or you can keep the watches on if he does. Also, if you're going somewhere that you wouldn't want your political colors on display, (like meeting your boyfriend/girlfriend's parents or a job interview) you can just take the watch off and not worry about anyone seeing the political shirt you had on underneath your coat.

Susan, to answer your last question first. Orbita the best? Hmmm, I think so.

(The brands I mention in competition with Orbita for the Mantel of "The Best Watch Winder", I can not fault, except to say that they are way to pricey for sale on the Internet, and so we do not offer them. I would be proud to sell these products however.)

Though there are some luxury Watch Winders out there which sell for much more money than Orbita, like Buben and Zorweg. I would not put Buben in competition for the best watch winder. Dependable and Rugged and Classic Style is Buben, but Buben chooses to use a single head for winding 2 watches at once(therefore the watches must be of about the same size and winding needs), a short cut that certainly works and saves money, but one I do not care for. However a Buben will outlast your Mercedes, with far more miles while sitting on your dresser looking grand! Orbita Watch Winders and 2 other brands pay more attention to the varied collections and winding needs...

There are 2 other brands that come to mind. Such as the brand you mentioned Scatola Del Tempo. There also is a London based company called Underwood. These 2 companies use essentially the same type of movement mechanism in their watch winders as does Orbita. However they pay more attention to the fit and finish and "high end" branding. If you buy and Underwood or Scatola Winder, I would not say you would think it was not worth the money, you would be impressed with the fit and finish for sure, but my experience is the Orbita will out perform either brand in the watch winder world. Orbita makes more winders that wind more watches than anyone else. The problem you mention is a case in point.

The Siena 1 Watch Winder is the very Watch Winder I would have recommended to you cold!

I just wanted to let everyone know about a new site that I've been using. It's called hulu and it offers free viewing of tons of full length movies and TV shows as well as short clips.

Another great thing about it is that you can type the name of a show or movie into the search field at hulu.com and it not only searches hulu.com but all over the Internet.

So, for example, if you type Lost in the search field it will bring you to a page where you can choose the episode you want to watch and then it will take you to that episode on ABC's website.

So even though hulu doesn't have Lost on their website they link you directly to the place on th e Internet that does. My wife and I have been watching old episodes of MacGyver from CBS's website that we found by searching for it on hulu.com. I also added it to my WebTV page at: http://tccville.com/webtv

Not Your Ordinary Love Song..."Gold Watch"

Some men write songs about their girlfriends or wives. Some write about their mothers, fathers or siblings. Some write about how much they love said people. Rapper Lupe Fiasco wrote a love song, but it wasn't for anyone in his life. It was about his gold Rolex watch. The name of the song, simply titled, "Gold Watch" is about his fashion sense, and naturally, his gold watch.

Known for his amazing lyrics, love of skateboarding and Japanese fashion sense, Lupe also never seems to take off his gold watch. Time would be important to someone like Lupe Fiasco. Between touring, writing music and recording, Lupe might need more than one watch to keep track of all the time zones he's in. In one of his songs, "Paris, Tokyo", he sings about going to sleep in Paris and waking up in Tokyo, and spending time in his home town, Chicago.

Or maybe a single watch would be enough for Lupe Fiasco. All he would need is the Ambassador watch from IceLink. Passwords? Simple advice complicated passwords.

Hi,

With all the talk of computer crime now.
The issue of passwords comes to mind.
Some people have way too simple of a password strategy so as to minimize forgetting which leaves your identity and or bank account open to attach. Others have such secure passwords they can not get into their own accounts!

A happy medium is needed. Never use the same pass word code for everything!
Never use your birthday, or other public record type of dates and always make use of security questions that are not found in public record searches. Mother's Maiden name is a terrible one! Mothers favorite food would be far superior. Sure someone could guess, but unless she posts it online it would not be hacked from public information.

I suggest the following strategy, it is simple yet effective. It will not yield the most secure password, nor will it make it totally unforgettable, but it will give you better overall results.

Make a rule for all passwords.
Then apply the rule to all passwords and rename old ones. Including your simple user account.(You don't use user accounts on your home computer? Shame on you change that now!)

Here is an example of a rule...
1. At least 8 characters long.
2. Start with a your initials.
3. Follow by a number (2 digits)
4. Follow by phrase related to website.
5. Capitalize every third letter.

This make for an extremely strong password yet, you can re-generate it should you "forget it" and your not using the same pass code for everything. Closely related, which aides memory, but not hackers!

We have no information about this watch. I would assume it would need bi-directional winding a minimum of 650 Turns Per Day. Good choices for you would be the Eilux Cubic winder, just do some trial and error to find winding settings. Winder watch by hand with stem, place on winder set at both directions and see if in 2 days watch is still working , if not try other settings or the just buy the Orbita Sparta Open Winder.

If you get the Orbita Sparta, you do not even have to do trial and errors since the winder automatically winds the watch for its winding needs.

Chanel J12 Tourbillon

In all of the print advertisements I had seen for Chanel's J12, the watches had been covered in diamonds. I thought it was beautiful, but also thought that "maybe there should be a jeweled watch that had some color to give it that extra something". I had planned to write about this lacking and then the next day.

Naturally, the next day when I was flipping through another fashion magazine, I saw an ad for the J12 Tourbillon. A watch made from a mix of white gold and rubies, with a black watch face and nine small index diamonds. It was like Chanel read my mind: here was a bejeweled watch that had that extra little kick!

568 rubies cover the watch, on the bezel, bracelet and even on the end of the watch dial. The mix and contrast of the red rubies and the black watch face, as well as the white gold of the bracelet and the index diamonds make it just as classic as that little black dress. This is a great watch for a night out on the town, staying a sparkle above the rest.

Be careful that your watch doesn't take away from your little black dress!

Watch Winder IWC Portuguese Perpetual ?

Hello,
So that I can select the proper watch winder, can you tell me how many turns per day are needed for an IWC Portuguese Perpetual watch. I like the Siena; however here's my dilemma: I'm living in Bangkok now and only get home a few times a year, I need to put the watch(IWC Portuguese Perpetual) in my safe (it is like a std hotel safe) and the opening is only 5 3/4 inches high but plenty deep and wide, the Siena will not fit. I could get another safe but it will not be as secure as the one built into the room, what do you think, any ideas?

The Great Clock, how is it related to the 4th of July?

It's time to celebrate the signing of the Declaration of Independence, which was signed 232 years ago today. The credited writer of the Declaration was Thomas Jefferson, who was also a great intellectual, a farmer and inventor (and fellow Charlottesville Virginia resident!). His inventions range from the dumbwaiter, to the hideaway bed, to macaroni and cheese (no joke!), and to the Great Clock.

The Great Clock, made of wood, iron and brass, hangs in the entrance of his home, Monticello, which is located in the foothills of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. The actual maker of the clock was a man named Peter Spruck, but Jefferson was the designer. The clock is controlled by two eighteen-pound weights which are dropped down to the floor on either side of the clock. There are notches on the path down of the weights that signify the days of the week. The gong of the clock which announces the time is located on the roof of Monticello.

Work on the clock began in 1792 in Philadelphia, and was completed in 1793. Jefferson kept the clock there until bringing it back to Virginia a year later. It wasn't until a full decade after that, however, that the eighteen pound weights of the clock were installed. The clock has not been moved since.

The company is named after motorcyclist Kenny Howard, who died of a stomach abscess in 1992. His sister then sold his name to a clothing company, and Von Dutch began to make clothes and accessories perfectly suited for that bad boy image.

Everything about Von Dutch seems, to me at least, daring and fashion forward, including their watches. My personal favorite is The Dutchman Collection., with the duel time zone chronograph, complete with exhaust pipes and a diamond frame.

What completely makes it for me is the smaller dial on the bottom, which can rotate to show a different time zone or a small skull on the other side. The leather strap comes in either black, brown, and for the happier bad seed, bright pink.

This watch is definitely individualistic and edgy, while remaining fun and rugged. Careful the shine of the diamonds doesn't blind motorists as you blow by them on your Harley.

A Sport to "Watch" For

One of my friends and I got into a bit of a disagreement the other day. With the Olympics coming up right around the corner this August in Beijing, we started talking about sports. "The only games in the Olympics," he said, "should be ones that can be measured. Like who jumps the farthest." I shook my head and told him that I myself enjoyed watching figure skating. "Yeah, but it's so much easier to judge measurable things, like distance and time."

That got me thinking. Can measurements not be disputed? What about people keeping track of time? If they all started their stopwatch even a split second differently, then it could cheat someone out of the gold. I would imagine the type of watch they used would also play an important role in the Olympic games.

You don't hear much about the timekeepers whenever there is talk about the Olympics. The athletes and the coaches receive all the attention, but in some games, the time keepers are the ultimate deciding factor. They can make or break a win.

TAG Heuer Celeb Fans..Spunk, Power, Uma and Tiger

I opened one of the local papers the other day, and came across a picture of Tiger Woods, hand to his chin, staring at the camera, with the caption, "WHAT ARE YOU MADE OF?" At first I thought, "Well, flesh and bones and organs, duh."

After having chuckled to myself about how clever I was (looking back, I really wasn't, was I?), I looked at the ad again to see what it was actually for. The reason Tiger had his hand to his chin was so he could show off his wrist, which held a lovely TAG Heuer watch.

The watch he was wearing a Link Calibre S Chronograph with perpetual retrograde calendar. I imagine in the kind of sport Tiger Woods competes in, (golf for those of you who have been hiding under a rock for the past ten years) timing is incredibly important, and you'd need the right kind of watch to help you sink that perfect putt. Can't you just hear the gentle ticking of his Link Calibre S watch as the crowd falls silent before he lines up his shot to land the ball on the green?

Either watch winder will work for your Rolex Oyster Datejust.

However we do not ship to Australia. We ship only to US addresses or APO and FPO addresses.

Orbita does have an Australian Distributor. Go to www.orbit.net, click Asia and you can find information which may help you in your quest.

Or maybe you have a USA friend who can buy the Watch Winder for you and ship it to you? We can not accept overseas credit cards unless they have a verifiable USA credit card billing address. Simple In Its Elegance...Movado black watches

Granted, he was talking about some girl's hair, but nothing says sophisticated and elegant like the color black. You know what I'm convinced should make a comeback?
Pocket watches.

Nothing seems more elegant and timely than a pocket watch, and how cool would it be if you pulled that out when someone asked you the time? So I did a little research to find out if this watch trend will ever make a comeback.

To my surprise, the first "pocket" watches did not start out being worn in the pocket: the watches were wore around the neck like a necklace. It wasn't until the 17th century that the change from "neck" watch to pocket watch occurred. They gained popularity with the building and the spread of railroads across America in the 19th century. I would imagine it would be critical to know the arrival and departure time of a train, so it did not crash into another train.

When I think of a pocket watch, however, I don't think of trains and crashes, I think of a refined gentleman, with the chain from his watch peeking out from his coat. And not with an open faced watch, those would be broken too easily. A pocket watch with a hunter case, also referred to as "savonette" for the French gentleman. These are the watches you have to press a button to pop open the case. How classy is that!

A Beautiful Garbo to watch (And Not Greta!)

Have you ever noticed that models never seem to smile? It's always them pouting and staring off camera, looking as if they are miserable that they are there. That doesn't make sense, because if I got to wear some of the clothing, jewelry and watches they got to wear, I wouldn't be able to stop smiling. Especially if I got to wear watches from Chopard and Cartier.

In the October 2007 edition of hr watches, there was a spread about SoHo watches... or watches people in SoHo wear... or they went to SoHo to take pictures of watches. I really didn't understand the concept of the spread, but what I did understand is that the watches looked incredible. In stark contrast to the sulking models, these watches stood out, bright and eye catching. (Except for the watches the model wore around her neck and in her hair; it was almost a "Where's Waldo?" of watch ads.)

Some watches caught my eye more than others, such as the Serena Garbo watch from Bertolucci.

Its curves seem as if they would fit a woman perfectly, not sliding around but hugging a female wrist. The watch face is surrounded by polished bezel, giving it an adorable feminine pink shine. I think this watch is a perfect combination of eye catching and classy minus the flashy. Yet the model still looks as if she were about to cry.

I guess I'll never understand high end fashion models.

This article is for those who use AVG for their anti-virus software (also useful if you don't use it but would like to). If you still have version 7.5 of the Free Edition than you have probably been getting a message telling you that you need to upgrade to 8.0.

You may also be wondering if the new version still comes in a free version. Well, it does and here's the link: AVG 8.0 Download

Just click on the link and download and run the software. This will start the installation process of the AVG 8.0 Free Edition anti-virus software. Run through all the defaults in the installation.

It may say something about how you already have an older version of AVG on your computer that needs to first be un-installed. That's OK because if you just keep clicking next and keeping to the defaults during the installation it will actually un-install the old version of AVG for you and then install the new one.

Then it will ask you to restart your computer. I would then go ahead and open AVG and click on the Update tab on the left to update the program. From that point on it should pretty much take care of itself. Hope this is helpful.

Hey people,

Well now that summer is here time to clean house. Yes lets get rid of all those clothes that scream last season. Donate them to the salvation army or a group home for underprivileged children. You know you can donate just about anything.
May I suggest donating to a battered woman's shelter, what may be old to you may be a new lease on life for someone in need.

That is the great thing about old stuff, it's new to some one else. And you feel good about helping. So what do you have people? (Not your rags, but your tired things, things you are tired of, but still have life and vitality!)

An old watch? Don't donate that!
Fix it up and give it to your son or daughter as a gift explain to them the story of the gift and what it means to you.

Yes old things count, they mean so much to people who have so little. Even donating a little time is great as well. Every little bit counts.
So old versus new how do you feel about it? Got any old things that with a little elbow grease would look new. Go look and see.

You might even find new life in an old outfit, you know fashion is always going back and forth. There are no old things just stuff to be reintroduced.

Let me say Deployant clasps are a problem.
I would recommend the Grande 2 watch Case from Venlo.
Please send your phone and best time to call and I can call and talk to you
a bit about any other choices. Deployants are hit and miss no guarantee
anything will work for sure.
Hint:
Your supposed to wear em! ;-) This is what the watch companies say!
The key to this style watch band or buckle storeability is the pillow...but the wrist size and watch size all effect the interplay of fitting in a watch box, so try it out...

watch you have, it needs to be wound either Clock wise (CW) or
in Both Directions (BD) from between 650 and 800 TPD (Turns Per Day).
