They say you can judge a person by the type of watch that they wear. In the 1980s, people must have thought the more watches you wore, the more that theory applies to you. Especially if those watches come in day-glow colors.
Admit it, if you were a teenager during the 80s, there was a good chance you probably owned one of these colorful plastic watches, known by its brand name as a "Swatch".
The 80s were not only a decade of greed, big hair and Reagonomics. It was also a decade of color and expression. Pastels and day-glow colors were everywhere: on clothing, shoes, handbags, album covers, and naturally, wrist watches. Swatches came in many unique colors and patterns, so you could match your watch to the color of your spandex. But what if you're wearing more than one color, what then? Problem solved: wear more than one watch! People wore two or more watches at a time, even with some girls tying them into their ponytails.
Swatches don't only come in crazy, bright colors. There are in fact three types of Swatches: Originals (the crazy colors), Irony (the metal watches) and Skin, which is a combination of the two.
And the Swatch Group, the Swiss company that makes Swatches, is still around today, making more modernized watches.
Who knows? Many other fashions from the 80s, such as leggings and wide belts are making a comeback, maybe plastic watches will too. Fingers crossed that fanny packs
never make a comeback.

You had no idea Swatch was not just a plastic watch did you? Ok in all fairness, I did mislead you with my question. I wanted you to think I was talking about a single watch, but I really just wanted to tell you how important Swatch is in the quality watch circles. Rolex is the leader, though many people would fight you on who makes the "best" watch. Rolex sells more than any other individual company and therefore wears the crown! (Pun intended.)
